I grew up in a very multi-ethnic part of east London where white people were in a minority. I joined IYT in 2013 and made my acting debut playing Lady Macbeth in IYT’s production HMP Macbeth. For me, the people, the values, the confidence boosts, encouragement and support I’ve received from Intermission Youth Theatre have been unmatched.
I went on to study Theology and Religion at Pembroke College, Oxford. I was the only black person in my year and the only black person on my degree course. It was extremely difficult. IYT was integral in supporting me every step of the way. It offered me an environment that was conducive to my physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional development.
After graduating, I trained as an investment analyst and founded a social enterprise that works with children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. I am Programme Director at the charity 10,000 BlackInterns and a Trustee of Intermission Youth.
