In 2023, I felt uncertain about my direction, as the traditional education pathway and working in McDonald’s didn’t align with my long term goals. During this time, Nana mentored me and introduced me to Darren, along with an opportunity to join the backstage crew for a pilot theatre programme.
Not knowing what I was signing up for was a big risk, but I knew I needed a change. The impact it’s had on my journey has been both gradual and transformative. Through Intermission’s workshops, I gained real insight into theatre production, especially from Danielle Adeyinka-Uche, an Intermission graduate and Stage Manager. She broke things down in a way I could really understand, gave me advice when I needed it, and has continued to support me beyond the workshops, even as I’ve started the next stage of my journey.
Spending two years as part of the backstage crew helped me build my technical skills and gave me confidence in myself, both in terms of my wellbeing and going after a career in production.
That experience laid a strong foundation and led to my acceptance into LAMDA’s BA (Hons) Production and Technical Arts (Screen & Stage) course. The support I received from Darren played a big part in helping me secure a scholarship grant, which has made a huge difference financially while studying. At LAMDA, I’ve been able to refine my craft, work with passionate creatives, and fully throw myself into an environment that’s all about theatre and screen production at the highest level.
Looking back, my time at Intermission Youth was instrumental in shaping my path. It gave me hands-on experience, mentorship, and a network of professionals who continue to inspire me. I am excited about the future and grateful for the opportunities that have come from this journey, as I’m still using all the skills I’ve learnt over the last couple of years today.
Intermission gave me the push I didn’t know I needed. It showed me what’s possible when people believe in you, and when you start believing in yourself too.
