Our actors perform scenes which are followed by a discussion with the young people on the issues and circumstances. The young people make suggestions on how a negative outcome, performed in the scene, could be prevented, and the actors improvise using their ideas. When the improvisations lead to the same outcome, the actors ask for more suggestions. Once the young people are comfortable with the process, they
have the option to replace an actor in the scenario to improvise, to positively transform the outcome of the scene.
Using this method so far, we have explored scenes from:
Wasted, based on Julius Caesar, exploring knife crime and jealousy
Verona Road, based on Romeo & Juliet, exploring gang violence and revenge
The Playground, based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, exploring substance abuse
