The Youngers Programme is Intermission Youth's newest acting programme developed for younger participants aged 11–15.
We carefully select around 10 young people through a taster workshop and informal interviews. We prioritise the involvement of guardians/carers, ensuring they are included every step of the way. No drama auditions are required - just a passion for growth and creativity.
We’ve observed a concerning decline in young people’s mental health, with a noticeable drop in confidence and reluctance to step beyond their comfort zones - effects worsened by the global pandemic. Currently, 42% of young people report worrying about their mental health, a sharp rise from 29% pre-pandemic.
We begin with unique workshops, drawing inspiration from our 10-month programme but specifically tailored for a younger audience: these sessions include warm-ups, games, text readings, monologues, and, of course, Shakespeare adapted to be both accessible and engaging for younger minds.
The programme is a transformative and enriching experience invaluable for the young person's growth.
At the end of the programme, everybody gets an opportunity to showcase their progress to their friends and family, and it’s a joy to witness new friendships and connections that could last a lifetime and see how the programme fosters a supportive community for these young participants.
